At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois (RMHCCI), our mission is to provide a supportive place for families to stay while their child is receiving medical care. Our work is rooted in the belief that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. We are committed to ensuring families can stay close to their hospitalized children without worrying about accommodation costs or daily necessities.

Recently, we were fortunate to witness the spirit of community and kindness come to life through the efforts of Graceland Center for Purposeful Aging. This incredible organization, dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults, has been a beacon of hope and support in Peoria, Illinois. Their mission is to empower seniors through education, connections, and innovative solutions, ensuring they can age gracefully in place. Given that Peoria is the 8th largest city in Illinois and the only one among the top ten largest cities in the state without a community-based senior center, the establishment of Graceland Center for Purposeful Aging addresses a significant need. With over 50,000 residents aged 50 and above, and 20,000 residents aged 65 and older, Peoria has eagerly awaited such a resource.

The participants at Graceland Center for Purposeful Aging recently undertook a heartwarming project: creating blankets for the families and children at RMHCCI. These blankets, handcrafted with love and care, are more than just items of comfort. They represent a bridge of compassion between generations, a tangible expression of support from Peoria's older adults to families navigating some of the toughest times in their lives.

We cannot express enough how delighted our families were to receive these beautiful blankets. Each blanket carries the warmth and dedication of the individuals who made them, bringing a piece of home and comfort to our Houses. The smiles on the faces of the children and the gratitude of their parents speak volumes about the impact of this generous act.
